Rangers vs St Johnstone Prediction, Betting Tips and Preview
Rangers play host to St Johnstone in the Scottish Premiership this Wednesday. Read the match predictions to find out why Rangers are the betting tip to pick up 3 points at Ibrox.
Rangers vs St Johnstone Preview
Rangers had to withstand heavy pressure from rivals Celtic and eventually succumbed to lose 0-1 in the league Cup semi-final on Sunday. Meanwhile, St Johnstone looked in good shape despite conceding late on in a 2-1 home win against Dundee.
Wesley Foderingham is likely to return between the sticks while Martin Waghorn could come back in up-front. That would mean Barry McKay moving to the right and James Tavernier returning to a more orthodox defensive position, pushing Lee Hodson onto the bench.
St Johnstone boss Tommy Wright will have been pleased with the performance of his players against Dundee and could stick with the same selection here. Blair Alston could be restored to the starting lineup if he opts for a 5 man midfield.

St Johnstone 4-4-2 formation: Clark; Foster, Shaughnessy, Anderson, Easton; Wotherspoon, Davidson, Craig, Swanson; Kane, MacLean

Rangers vs St Johnstone Prediction
Rangers had beaten Partick Thistle 2-0 at home and won 0-1 away at Inverness Caledonian Thistle prior to Sunday’s setback. They’ll be looking to get back in the winning groove in front of their own fans to try and close the gap on the teams above.
St Johnstone enjoyed a 0-2 away win at Ross County but were unable to replicate that form against kilmarnock and were beaten 0-1 in front of their own fans. The Saints made up for that with an impressive win last time out but this is a much tougher assignment.
Aside from defeats to Celtic and Aberdeen, Rangers have looked reasonably comfortable in the Scottish Premiership. They are also unbeaten at home which could be key against a St Johnstone side that has lost just one league game on the road this season.
The fact that Rangers will be desperate to provide a positive response to being dumped out of the cup is likely to see them play with real intensity and purpose. I can’t see them running away with the game but as good as St Johnstone have been away from home, Rangers will be determined to come out on top.
